A  LETTER

TO  THE

PRESIDENT

By Floyd Bowman,

Publisher, "Opinions Baseed On Facts."

October 31, 2014.

Since my last posting there have been a few developments occur relative to the first item of OBOF 32 that has made it imperative that I write to the President.

Below is a short reprint from last posting and then the letter I sent to the President.

GREED IS THE FOOD

for

POWER & CORRUPTION

by Floyd Bowman

Publisher, OBOF

October 8, 2014.

I have had a long and difficult debate with myself as to whether I should write about this subject.  There are so many people involved, that could be touched, and who are totally innocent.  What I am going to write is based on MY PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF FACTS THAT HAVE AND ARE OCCURRING.  I make this statement because I can not give you the information that would tell you how I obtained these facts, as that would put some innocent people in danger.  What danger?  I am not prepared to say.

There is a United States Senator who has been involved in politics for the past 54 years and now is the MOST POWERFUL AND CORRUPT SENATOR IN THE UNITED STATES  SENATE.  IN SOME WAY'S, HE IS MORE POWERFUL THAN EVEN THE PRESIDENT.  NO LEGISLATOR FROM HIS STATE, IN EITHER THE HOUSE OR SENATE, WILL VOTE ON ANY LEGISLATION, UNTIL HE TELLS  THEM HOW TO VOTE AND THEY CLEAR THEIR TALKING POINTS WITH HIM ALSO.  HE IS A VERY FRIGHTENING PERSON.

He even controls everything that happens in his State from the Governor on down.  They don't vote or express any thoughts unless he OKs it.  MOST OF ALL, HE HURTS FINE PATRIOTIC CITIZENS OF HIS STATE, THAT HE SHOULD BE HELPING.

I wrote the above after gaining this knowledge over the past four and one half years.  I don't know if this writing will do any good or not, or if it might be a little dangerous to me, but I don't care.  This man must be stopped.  He is Senator Jim Inhofe (R) of Oklahoma.

THE  LETTER

Dear President Obama:

This will be short.  It will be factual and provable.  It is an example of the most despicable case of undermining by the Republicans in the United State Senate that you can imagine.  And this is in your Administration under YOUR watch.

I am a 90 year old USMC WWII veteran and a retired Illinois State Executive, who has a friend that owns a company that has developed a military product that has been reviewed by many military engineers and no less than seven Generals.  Without exception, they have all approved the product and have wanted to know how soon they could get it.

This company is owned by a minority small businessman, who has been jacked around by numerous government agencies for the past three years.  I have every reason to believe that a Republican Senator is powerful enough to get this stopped.

My friend has now come to the end of the road.  Not only would he appreciate an opportunity to tell you his story, but this product is one that will save lives in the field.  This is no gimmick

I plead with you to give this man an opportunity to tell you his story.  You need to know it.

Sincerely,

Floyd A. Bowman

PS.  He has fought to keep the manufacturing of his products
and create jobs in the USA.

WHY SHOULD YOU VOTE?

DOES YOUR VOTE COUNT?

WHY SHOULD YOU BE CONCERNED?

By Floyd Bowman.

Publisher, "Opinions Based On Facts."

October 31, 2014.

The right to vote is one of the most precious rights we have in a Democracy.  We should always vote when we are given that opportunity, regardless of whether we think our vote counts or not.  If a person does not vote, he/she has no right to complain after an election.

It has been said that there are always consequences resulting from any election.  I suppose this is true to a greater or lesser effect.  Regardless of how great the consequences of the election next Tuesday November 4, 2014, we should vote.

Now, in my opinion, there will be a very small amount of consequences, and particularly positive consequences, from our up coming election.  Let's see why I say that.

There is only one result that can bring about any change in our Federal dilemma.  That would be if Democrats won a filibuster proof majority in the Senate and a majority in the House of Representatives.  THAT IS ALMOST 100% IMPOSSIBLE.

If the Democrats maintain a majority in the Senate, but not a filibuster proof majority and the Republicans maintain a majority in the House of Representatives, everything stays the same as now.  THERE IS A VERY HIGH LIKELY HOOD THAT THIS MAY HAPPEN.

If the Democrats maintain a majority in the Senate, but not a filibuster proof majority and the Democrats win a majority in the House of Representatives, there will be changes from the House, but they will be stopped in Senate by a filibuster.

If the Republicans win a majority in the Senate and maintain a majority in the House of Representatives, many legislation changes will be made and passed and sent to the President's desk, where he will veto them and be labeled the "Obstructionist."

REGARDLESS, WHATEVER ONE OF THE ABOVE HAPPENS, DEFINITELY GET OUT THERE, AND VOTE.

Duplication Nation

By Tom Coburn, MD.

US Senator, Oklahoma.

Note from Floyd:

It might be that some of you do not know that Senator Coburn is stepping down a year early of his term finish.  It is reported that there are two reasons for his decision to make this change.

First, he has discovered he has Cancer and he wants to start treatment as soon as possible.

Second, he is returning to his medical practice in order to make up for all the money he has lost while serving in both the US House and Senate for Oklahoma.  He is a very unusual Senator.  Very few leave the Senate without being much more financially secure, than when they came to the Senate.

He is the first and only Republican I have ever voted for in my 90 years on this planet.  The following is just a sample of the kind of work he has done while in Congress.  When he ran for a seat in US House of Representatives, he said he would only serve two terms.  That is what he did.  He said the same thing when he ran for a seat in the Senate.  That is what he was doing, except, because of the above reasons, he has had to cut it one year shorter.

Despite the looming fiscal crisis and near-nonexistent economic recovery, Congress continues business as usual, by refusing to plan for the future, set priorities, or cut spending. Federal spending is at an all-time high, and as a nation we are looking down the barrel of record trillion-dollar deficits and a more than $16 trillion debt, more than $53,000 per citizen.

Taxpayers are sending nearly a trillion dollars of their income to the Treasury every year, just to watch Congress waste it on thousands of programs that duplicate other federal, state, and private efforts and cannot demonstrate any measure of success. Despite promises from Washington politicians that government programs can solve every challenge—taxpayers are being ripped off.

Ignoring their responsibility to conduct oversight and determine if a given federal program is effective, members of Congress are often beholden to special interest groups and would rather continue funding an old program instead of eliminating it.  At the same time, Congress will then create new programs that do the very same thing and do it just as poorly.  There's no ineffective, inefficient program that the government can’t recreate at an even higher cost.

Thoughtful and careful legislating is a thing of the past, and instead, Congress is in the business of creating press release programs, established not to truly fix a problem, but simply to give the appearance of action and concern.  The result is a maze of bureaucracy and overlap, hundreds of billions of dollars spent on thousands of duplicative programs, and government waste and mismanagement as far as the eye can see.

Even worse, the more we spend, the more the problems stay the same.  Congress has created a program (or several in most cases) and poured billions of dollars into these programs, to address nearly every issue and problem faced by any individual, group, or entity across the country.  And yet, many of these problems and challenges still exist today, as if the government never even tried to address it.

Many of these challenges such as homelessness, poverty, education, juvenile delinquency, drug abuse, and hundreds others, remain today—homelessness rates, education testing, juvenile crime rates remain unchanged and unimproved, despite decades of federal programs and billions of dollars in taxpayer funding spent to alleviate and address these concerns.

We spend billions of dollars on hundreds of education programs, yet scores continue to fall and dropout rates are rising.

We spend billions of dollars on housing programs, yet thousands are still homeless.

We spend millions of dollars on dozens of job training, yet thousands are looking for work.

It is nearly impossible fully comprehend the vast expanse of federal programs that exist today.  Although various sources, including USA Spending and documents released by OMB and CBO produce partial lists of various government programs, there is not an exhaustive list of federal programs.  Every federal department is now administering programs that address challenges tasked to be addressed by other agencies. The government has grown so large and unmanageable, that even the experts, and the departments themselves, cannot compile a list of all federal programs within their purview.

In response, this January, the Senate passed an amendment directing the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to annually identify federal programs, agencies, offices, and initiatives with duplicative goals and activities, to estimate the cost of the duplication, and to make recommendations for consolidation and elimination of the duplication.

GAO has been working long and hard on a report, as mandated by this provision, and early next year we hope to see the first in a series of reports fully outlining the extensive duplication throughout the federal bureaucracy. It will then be up to Congress to look objectively at GAO’s finding and begin eliminating and consolidating the thousands of duplicative government programs.

Examples of Federal Duplication

There are over 14 programs administered by the U.S. Department of Education related to foreign exchanges and designed to increase opportunities for students to study abroad.

According to GAO, to the tune of $30 billion, the federal government funds more than 44 job training programs, administered by nine different federal agencies across the federal bureaucracy.

The federal government administers at least 20 federal programs across 12 different federal offices and agencies, dedicated to the study of invasive species.

There are at least 17 offender reentry programs across five different federal agencies, costing taxpayers over $250 million annually.

A May 2007 report of the Academic Competitiveness Council revealed there are at least 105 federal programs supporting science, technology, education, and math education, with aggregate funding of $3.12 billion in FY 2006.

There are at least nine federal programs tasked with researching and developing biofuels, costing taxpayers nearly $300 million annually, and over $800 million was included in the Stimulus bill for these initiatives.

Ebola: What you need to know
by Brad Hoppmann, Publisher, Uncommon Wisdom Daily

Unless you live thousands of miles away from any human civilization, you surely have heard about Ebola. You know it’s some sort of disease.  You know it's spreading fast. And you know it's bad.

But do you know what it actually is?

"One of the world's deadliest diseases…"

That's according to Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), or Doctors Without Borders, a French-founded humanitarian-aid non-governmental organization.

"It is a highly infectious virus that can kill up to 90% of the people who catch it, causing terror among infected communities," they say.

And so far, there's no vaccination against it.

What is Ebola?

Before the recent outbreak, most people had never heard of Ebola. The disease was discovered in 1976 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire). Here, the initial outbreak was named after the neighboring Ebola River.

The Ebola virus causes viral hemorrhagic fever, which according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), refers to a group of viruses that affect multiple organ systems in the body and are often accompanied by bleeding.

Normally, the body recognizes a virus, such as the flu or the common cold, by the function of dendritic cells. These cells patrol the body and alert the immune system of an invader.

When the body knows of an invader, it produces antibodies tailored specifically to the particular virus.  This is how the body normally deals with infection.

When the Ebola virus enters the blood, it immediately targets the immune system, which is responsible for combating infections.

What makes Ebola different and much more dangerous is its sophisticated ability to bypass the dendritic cells undetected and shut off their "alarm system."

This leaves the immune system clueless, and therefore no antibodies are made to combat the Ebola virus.

Now the immune system is completely unprotected and open to all kinds of infection.

The Ebola virus begins to replicate like crazy, causing uncontrollable growth and infection in various organs in the body. Cells begin to prematurely die and even explode.

Remember, from initial exposure to death process can take anywhere from a couple days to up to 21 days depending on certain factors.

However, in the end, it’s not the Ebola virus that kills you. It's actually your own immune system in the form of something called a "cytokine storm."

A cytokine storm is essentially an SOS to your immune system. In one last desperate attack to save the body, the immune system launches its full arsenal of weapons.

The virus takes a hit, but the collateral damage on the body proves to be fatal.

Dr. Christopher Basler an immunologist at the University of Texas says "the cytokine storm makes the blood vessel walls more permeable. So the arteries, veins, and capillaries start to leak blood and plasma."

Basler’s partner, Dr. Thomas Geisbert, describes the finish:

"All these factors combine together to reduce blood pressure to dangerous levels, so you don't die of blood loss, but from something similar to severe septic shock."

The Current State of Ebola

The World Health Organization warned Thursday as it announced the worldwide death toll would pass 4,500 — including 236 health workers.

So far, the disease has mainly affected the West African countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, but fears of a spread to the United States, Europe and the rest of the world are quickly rising.

Only one American, Thomas Eric Duncan, has died from the Ebola outbreak.

Two nurses who had been involved in treating Duncan have been diagnosed with the virus and are now being treated in isolation at the same hospital.

One of those nurses, Amber Vinson, flew halfway across the country from Texas to Ohio on a commercial jet with 132 other people just the day before she entered the hospital with Ebola-like symptoms.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said he wasn't sure how it happened.

"She was being monitored here in Dallas," he told CNN's "The Situation Room."

"And if she was being monitored correctly, I think she should have never gotten on that flight."

The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention said this in a statement:

"Because of the proximity in time between the evening flight and first report of illness the following morning, CDC is reaching out to passengers who flew on Frontier Airlines flight 1143 Cleveland to Dallas/Fort Worth Oct. 13."

Is Ebola the Next Pandemic?

In my opinion, no. At least not yet.

The current outbreak is for the time being contained in West Africa. The Ebola virus spreads by human to human contact, not airborne transmission, which would be a dire cause for concern.

Unfortunately, the world does not seem to be as prepared as it should of been, but in no way can this already be deemed "the next AIDS."

Right now, the only prevention you can take against Ebola is by not traveling to an infected area.

This is a simple solution for now, but personally, I think this creates a sense of insecurity, because the fate of the disease rests in the hands of others and the decisions they make.

What do you think about Ebola? How big of a threat do you believe it really is? You can leave a comment on our website or send me an e-mail.

FROM  A  LOYAL  READER

HE  SAYS  IT  SO  WELL.

By Howell Joiner.

A loyal reader.

October 23, 2014.

Floyd , you are one of the very few respected elders who are still around for me to look up too.  I will be 81 in December.  Most of my elder friends in my church circles have not used a thoughtful process of facts to form their opinion.  They have let the likes lof Rush Limbaugh form their opinion.  All the misinformation has led the Christian majority to pledge allegiance to a political party that is, bound and determined to destroy our government of the people, for the people, and by the people.

There are too many people who we have elected who are fast moving us into the position of being governed by world corporations.  When that happens our once Great United States Of America will then be known as "The Late Great United States Of America."  When this happens all the non-wealthy will be nothing but slaves and be allowed to exist only through production ability.

I than you so much Howell.  Floyd

If the good Lord is willing and the creek don't rise, I'll talk with you again, hopefully next week.
