THE PRESIDENT STILL NEEDS

OUR STRONG SUPPORT

By Floyd Bowman.

"Opinions Based On Facts."

Last Tuesday, I pointed out that our President needed us behind him now just as strong and as much as he needed us during the election year.  I wonder, if any of you have been watching him  this past week in his various talks and press conference.  If you have, you saw a real firm strong President.  He was totally Presidential.

In his first week after re-election, he wasted no time in moving forward, as he has said all through the campaign.  He made it very clear that he had a MANDATE and he spelled out what that mandate was.  The voters have given him the mandate to work hard for the middle class and those who are struggling to get in the middle class.  "That's my mandate and I intend to work as hard as I can for that mandate," he said.

He was also very firm about his position on taxes and revenue.  Taxes are going up, particularly, on those making $250,000 a year or more.  He is asking for the same tax rate for those, as when Bill Clinton was President, which was 39%.  The rumors at this time are that the Republicans are considering 35%.  The President has said that he welcomes their ideas and will not just "slam the door in their face."  Some feel that he has left the door open just a very little bit and may settle for 37 or 37.5 %.  Either way he is really moving forward in a firm and Presidential manner.

ROMNEY & McCain

STILL CAMPAIGNING FOR 2008 & 2012

By Floyd Bowman.

"Opinions Based On Facts."

The 2008 and 2012 Presidential elections are over for everyone, except John McCain and Mitt Romney.  Senator McCain, of course, lost the election in 2008 to President Obama and he has not gotten over it.  In counter point after counter point, McCain has jabbed and punched at the President every chance he gets.  The latest is his attack on Susan Rice, Ambassador to the United Nations.

He has said that the statements made by Ambassador Rice relating to Benghazi were totally wrong and out of line and that she should have known better.  He also, said that if she was nominated for Secretary of State, he would block her confirmation.

The problem with his harassment is that, Ambassador Rice was exactly correct in her statements and Senator McCain missed the private briefing in which the CIA provided the information.  Right or wrong, Ambassador Rice made her statements based on the briefing she received from the CIA, that McCain missed and has not bothered to get the correct information since.

There is instance after instance when McCain tries to dig in the President and tries to embarrass the President.  This is what I mean, when I say that Senator McCain is still campaigning.  He, of course, isn't actually campaigning he is just expressing sour grapes of revenge, that he lost the Presidency to a black man.  Yes, I truly believe that race is behind it and many other things that are going on in our country.

Now, how about Romney, still campaigning.  He made a very good concession talk and if he had just dropped out after that, he would have saved his reputation, but he couldn't let it go at that.  No, he had to start talking about why he lost and talking about all the GIFTS the President gave to the youth and seniors and all the people with health care, which he now is saying, represents $10,000 a year for the average family.  He is now hurting his reputation, as well as losing the election.

Obama: No Compromise on Raising Taxes for Rich

President Obama made it clear Saturday that he’s more than willing to play a game of chicken with Republicans, confident he’s not the one who will have to blink first. In his weekly address Saturday, Obama said there are only two outcomes possible during negotiations over the so-called fiscal cliff: taxes for the richest Americans go up, or everyone’s taxes go up, reports the Hill.

Obama said that he hopes to be able to “give families and businesses some good news going into the holiday season” and called on House Republicans to quickly approve the bill that would extend Bush-era tax cuts for those making less than $250,000 a year. In the Republican response, Sen. Kelly Ayotte insisted on the issue of tax reform, saying loopholes must be eliminated as a way to increase revenue. She added that the year-end “fiscal cliff” deadline “provides an opportunity for both parties to change our country’s irresponsible spending path,” reports CBS News.

“When it comes to taxes, for example, there are two pathways available,” Obama said. “One says, if Congress fails to act by the end of the year, then everybody’s taxes automatically go up. … The other path is for Congress to pass a law right away to prevent a tax hike on the first $250,000 of anyone’s income.”

Democratic and Republican congressional leaders both expressed optimism Friday after they left a White House meeting to discuss the looming fiscal cliff.

"We have the cornerstones of being able to work something out," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, according to the Los Angeles Times. “This is not something we're going to wait until the last day of December to get done. We have a plan. We're going to move forward on it."

For now though fiscal cliff conversations will have to be put on hold as Obama left Saturday for a brief tour through Southeast Asia, with stops in Thailand, Cambodia, and Burma.  He will be gone for only five days, but some have still criticized the president, saying he should have canceled his trip until a deal to avoid the tax increases and spending cuts of the fiscal cliff is sealed, reports the National Journal.

WHAT DO YOU SUPPOSE IS

HAPPENING IN OKLAHAOMA?

TO ME, THIS IS JUST UNBELIEVABLE.  This is totally Un-American.  First, let me point out that, as you know, I try hard to write opinions based on facts.  Sometimes it is hard to determine facts.  What I am going to report to you now is from, what I consider to be, a very reliable source.  So, I am going to report it as fact.

At this writing, there are two known companies in Tulsa, Oklahoma that are having to lay off some workers.  One is a very large national corporation and the other, I'm guessing here, has somewhere between 50 and 100 employees.

In the process of determining what personnel to lay off the Powers that be, went out into the parking lot and identified  cars that had Obama stickers on them.  All of them were placed on the lay off list.  It has been reported to me that one of the executives in the smaller company was heard saying to some that were being laid off, "Go let Obama take care of you."  I wonder what they would be saying if McCain had won over Obama four years ago.  We would really be in the soup if that had happened, I must add, in my opinion.  This is a hell of a way to run a railroad.  (Midwest saying)

Oklahoma has, for a long time, been a red state, but Blue is coming on fast as evident of many things that have happened here during this last election.  The Tulsa World paper endorsed a Democrat for Congress this time, for the first time in 24 years.  That alone was a big step.  I have failed to write anything about my background for two years now and I will try to get that done, but right now I want you to know I am not originally from Oklahoma.  I am from Illinois. Have been here for 22 years.

SECESSION FROM THE UNION.

As reported by Ed Schultz on MSNBC Thursday 11-15-12, we have seven states that have over 25,000 signatures on a petition filed for secession from the Union.  The seven are:

                             State                                       Petition signatures

                             Texas                                     108,000

                             Louisiana                                35,000

                             Florida                                     32,000

                             Georgia                                   30,000

                             Tennessee                              29,000

                             Alabama                                  28,000

                             North Carolina                       28,000

Source:  WHITEHOUSE.GOV

In my opinion, this secession movement isn't going any place as it hasn't really been thought out as to what it really would mean and the number of signatures obtained, at this point, are very few, as compared to what would be needed for it to really happen.  It is just a movement, expressing sour grapes over race, in my opinion.  Note where the states are located, they are all in the south and south central.  Another movement that will not, in the long run, go anywhere is as follows.

"Despair among Republicans has turned to rage and now they are starting a movement to impeach the President.  A right wing fringe group, known for it's ultra conservative theories, is starting a movement to impeach the President."  They have said,

"Our only recourse now is to move forward with the full impeachment of President Obama.  We suspect that Obama is Guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors and that there may be grounds for impeachment as is laid out in the Constitution.  Further, he may not even be a U. S. citizen, because nobody, I mean no one, has seen an actual physical copy of his birth certificate.  Impeachment is our only option."

Stand With Working Families

by Sen. Bernie Sanders

Published November 12, 2012

The Democrats won a major victory on Election Day.

Despite dozens of billionaires spending huge amounts of money to defeat President Obama, he won a crushing victory in the Electoral College and received 3 million more votes than Romney did nationally. Democrats won 25 of 33 seats contested in the Senate and, to everyone’s surprise, expanded their majority there by two.  They also gained seats in the House.

Now, with this victory behind them, the president and Democratic leadership must make it very clear that they will stand with the middle class and working families of our country. These are the people struggling to keep their heads above water economically, the people who worry about whether they can afford health care and whether their kids will be able to attend college.  These are the people government should be worried about – not the millionaires and billionaires who are doing just fine.

Most importantly, in the coming weeks and months, the Democrats must demand that deficit reduction is done in a way that is fair – and not on the backs of the elderly, the children, the sick and the poor.  At a time when real unemployment remains close to 15 percent, we must also focus on creating the millions of jobs that our people need.

In America today we have the most unequal distribution of wealth and income of any major country on earth.  Incredibly, the top 1 percent owns 42 percent of the nation's wealth while the bottom 60 percent owns just 2.3 percent. In the last study done on income distribution, we learned that 93 percent of all new income generated between 2009 and 2010 went to the top 1 percent, while the bottom 99 percent split the remaining 7 percent.  This extraordinary unfairness is not only morally reprehensible, it is bad economics.  It will be very difficult to create the jobs that our people need when so many Americans have little or no money to spend.

As Vermont's senator, I will be pushing for a major jobs program to put millions of people back to work rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure.  In Vermont and around the country we need a massive effort to improve our roads, bridges, water and wastewater systems, airports, rail, broadband and cell phone service. Rebuilding our infrastructure makes us more productive and internationally competitive — and creates a whole lot of jobs.

In terms of deficit reduction let us not forget that in 2001, when Bill Clinton left office, this country had a $236 billion surplus.  As a result of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that were unpaid for, huge tax breaks for the rich, a Medicare prescription drug program put on the credit card and a significant decline in federal revenues because of the recession, we now have a $1 trillion deficit and a $16 trillion national debt.

Congress must address the deficit situation and the fiscal cliff, but we must do it in a way that is fair.  At a time when the wealthiest people in this country are doing extremely well and their effective tax rates are low (think Mitt Romney), the people on top must pay their fair share of taxes to help us deal with the deficit.  We must also end the outrageous loopholes that allow one out of four large profitable corporations to pay nothing in federal corporate income taxes.  Further, it is absurd that current tax policy allows the wealthy and large corporations to avoid paying over $100 billion a year in federal taxes because they stash their money in tax havens in the Cayman Islands and elsewhere.

We must also take a hard look at wasteful spending in the Defense Department where we now spend almost as much money as the rest of the world combined.  Significant savings can be found at other federal agencies too.

What we must not do, however, is move toward a balanced budget on the backs of the elderly, the children, the sick and the poor. Sadly, that is what virtually all Republicans and some Democrats want to do.  As Vermont's senator, I will do all that I can to prevent cuts in Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, education and other programs vitally important to the working families of America.

In my view, if the Republicans continue to play an obstructionist role, the president should get out of the Oval Office and hit the road.  I frankly do not believe that there is any state in the country, including those that are very red, where people believe that it makes sense to continue giving huge tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires while cutting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.  I have a strong feeling that when large numbers of constituents all across this country start calling and emailing their senators and members of Congress about this issue, we’re going to win and win big.

The good news is that we are already beginning to see some Republicans make thoughtful comments on this issue. Bill Kristol, the conservative commentator and Weekly Standard editor, said Sunday that the Republican Party should accept new ideas, including the much-criticized suggestion by Democrats that taxes be allowed to go up on the wealthy.

"It won't kill the country if we raise taxes a little bit on millionaires," he said on Fox News Sunday. "It really won't, I don't think.   I don't really understand why Republicans don't take Obama's offer."

Why Do Senior Generals Live Like Billionaires?

In the days since the scandal involving former CIA director David Petraeus came to light, one aspect of his lifestyle that came to light but has received little attention is “the imperial trappings that come with a senior general’s lifestyle,” writes the Washington Post.

Former defense secretary Robert Gates flatly points to the many benefits that a four-star general receives as perhaps one of the things that may have contributed to Petraeus’ actions.  “There is something about a sense of entitlement and of having great power that skews people’s judgment,” Gates said.

The commanders who lead the U.S. military have, among other things, palatial homes, executive jets, drivers, security guards, aides, and gourmet chefs at their disposal.  In all, the military leaders receive more perks and benefits than anyone in the government besides the president, writes the Post.

That kind of lifestyle can contribute to a disconnect from reality.  Gates says he tried to cut back on the perks when he led the Pentagon but quickly discovered it amounted to the “third rail” of the Defense Department.

NOTE FROM FLOYD:

The amount of money that is allotted to the Military is simply out of control, in my opinion.  It appears that the Military is starting to become the tail that wags the dog.  In a tight pinch, this could become dangerous.  With the wrong people at the top of the Military, and in conjunction with the Millionaire and Billionaires, along with Wall Street, a coup could occur before anyone knew it.

I am sure that the top brass in the Military can be very intimidating if they were a mind too.  That, apparently, is what Gates ran into when he tried to cut back on some of the perks.  I, personally believe, that it would not, at all, be a bad thing for the reduction in Military allotment.  It's my understanding that parts of the Military already have billions of dollars that they haven't spent.

I would like to see Senator Coburn, of Oklahoma, take a good look at the Military's use of money.  He has done such a good job with his "Back in Black" waste study.
